Free SMS in Australia
So you want free SMS? I've had a look at some free SMS sites which are listed below. I have outlined my recommendations and some of the pitfalls often associated with a "free" service.

SMSPup is free for you but they get their money back through advertising. It works on a points systems, that is, you gain points through clicking banners on their site, responding to email promotions and online survey invitations, and agreeing to receive SMS promotions. With the points you gain, you can send "free" SMSs.
- 5 Free SMS upon registration
- Flexible in that the more you choose to consume advertising, the more points you get.
- There's a link to their site at the end of SMSs you send

One of the most popular free SMS sites in Australia.
- 5 free SMS per day
- The more active you are on Freesmsmate the more extra credits you can earn
- Website is very messy
- "FreeSmsMate.com.au now does FREE SMS" is added to the end of your message.

This is a site powered my motorolla, and uses the "from field" of messages to advertise itself.
- 50 Free SMS weekly (no roll over)
- Your number is not displayed, so people don't know who sent the message

Literally allows you to send free SMS to anyone you like, quickly, simply. Not sure how long this will last though.
- No sign-up required
- Quick and very simple!
- Your number is not displayed, so people don't know who sent the message
- "web2sms.com is appended at the end of the message. 140 char message limit
- Daily limits per carrier (e.g. optus, telstra etc). So you've got less chance of being able to send the later the day gets.
- Not based in Australia (but who cares if it works!)
